Making friends and meeting new people in Liverpool: what clubs or social events actually work?

For anyone who moved to Liverpool recently or just wants to widen their circle outside work: what social groups, casual sports, run clubs or hobby meetups in the city are genuinely welcoming to newcomers showing up on their own?

A lot of meetups sound great on paper but turn out to be cliquey or inactive. Any regular weekly events, board game evenings, volunteer groups or community spaces people would recommend for meeting people naturally?

Sugar and Dice on Cornhill in the Baltic Triangle runs open social gaming nights where people can just turn up solo and get matched into casual board games. The staff are lovely, they actively introduce people to tables, and there is zero alcohol pressure.

The morning run clubs around the waterfront and Sefton Park have exploded over the last couple of years, but if running isn’t your thing, the open ceramics sessions or print workshops at make.liverpool in the North Docks are really friendly. Working on a project with your hands gives you an easy reason to chat without feeling like forced networking.
